The landscape of Magic Kingdom is shifting. In the largest expansion since the park opened, Disney has unveiled the intricate details of Piston Peak National Park, a massive new area blending the natural majesty of America’s wilderness with the high-octane energy of the Disney and Pixar Cars universe.
This new territory builds directly onto the historic, westward-moving narrative of Liberty Square and Frontierland.
As guests transition past the colonial architecture of upstate New York, through New Orleans at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and past the Arizona bluffs of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, they will now enter a fictionalized version of the Rocky Mountains.
Harmonizing Wilderness and Wheels: "Parkitecture"
A primary challenge for Disney Imagineers was ensuring that a land dedicated to loud, dirty off-road racing could peacefully coexist next to the serene, historic storytelling of Frontierland.
To solve this, the design utilizes "Parkitecture." Developed historically by the National Park Service, this architectural style uses local wood and stone to build visitor lodges, trails, and Ranger headquarters that look like an organic extension of the environment.
Thick treelines will serve as a natural barrier to insulate neighboring areas.
Simultaneously, rugged, snowcapped peaks will rise across the water from Grizzly Hall, and geysers from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will flow directly into the rugged racing trails, creating a unified visual landscape.
Cars Ridge Run Rally: A Technological First"
The crown jewel of Piston Peak National Park is Cars Ridge Run Rally.
This attraction throws out traditional theme park track mechanics in favor of a revolutionary new ride vehicle.
Instead of simulating an off-road drive, the vehicle functions like a true all-terrain car.
The tires and suspension system react authentically to the terrain, meaning guests will physically feel every dip, rock, and bump along the path.
The trek takes racers through deep forests, up the steep incline of Piston Peak to an icy summit, and down a sharp camelback descent.
The race reaches its climax in a roaring geyser field, circling the famous Old Tankfull geyser before a final sprint to the finish line, where Lightning McQueen and Mater call the action live for the Racing Sports Network.
Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along
For guests looking for a different kind of chaotic fun, Piston Peak will also house Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along.
Inspired by the standout demolition derby scene in Cars 3, this attraction brings the "Diva of Demolition" to life via a massive, school-bus-sized animatronic.
Guests will participate in a stampeding, spinning bash right in the middle of Miss Fritter’s wildest derby arena.
